Cognitive-Analytic Strategies and Techniques [Cogetics™] brings together:
Teachers and students learn new and revisited subject matter critically. Abilities in critical thinking, reading, writing, and problem solving develop at the same time that subject matter is discussed. Cognitive-Analytic Strategies and Techniques uses cognitive learning objectives. It uses these objectives in connection with analytic/critical patterns. The result is that students grasp the meaning and nature of subject matter the first time it is engaged. Cogeticsä is used with students at all grade levels. The raised standards are analytic/critical in nature. This means that teachers need to address subject matter in ways that are analytic / critical. Cogetics is a means for teachers to address raised standards in the classroom. Cogetics is a means for students to achieve raised standards in and out of the classroom. The Purpose of This Workbook This workbook applies to all subjects. Its purpose is to introduce teachers, materials developers, counselors, and others to Cogeticsä. You will find here the basic classroom strategies and techniques that form the basics of Cogetics™. The Consequences of This Workbook You will see how a behavioral learning objective differs from a cognitive learning objective. You will see the difference between teaching subject matter in the conventional manner and teaching subject matter in an analytic/critical manner. You will begin to apply Cognitive-Analytic Strategies and Techniques. You will start the development of analytic instructional materials for classroom use. You will be able to use these materials to convey subject matter in a learner-centered analytic manner. Regardless of your discipline(s), you will be able to directly address the performance indicators within the raised standards. You will be able to design rubrics. You and your students can use these rubrics to assess how well the standards are being attained. You will be able to transfer the work, responsibility, and the delight of learning critically to your students. This, of course, is where it belongs. You and your students will no longer see teaching and learning not as acts of transmission and memorization. Acts of cognitive and analytic reasoning, writing, reading, listening, speaking and problem solving will take their place. This work serves to introduce elementary through college faculty to Cogetics. For expanded information on how to prepare analytically framed instructional materials for classroom use, see The Analytic Teacher and Subject Matter Language Frameworks.
